Dunegrass

The vanity lights above
	the bathroom sink

Cast a shadow of his hair
	while he brushes his teeth;

He sees dunegrass waving
	on Asilomar's sandy hills,

Framed by a gray-white sky
	and shoreline fog;

His mouth foam is whitecaps
	breaking beyond the dunes,

And the peppermint flavor
	is the balm on her lips

Joining hers to his
	in love's timeless lock,

As they embrace in the face
	of a cool and salty breeze,

The ecstatic passion of youth,
	youth of years upon years.

  1. Oh, this is so sweet in its up-close realness contrasted with its vast vista of past love in an enchanted land. You take the reader to deep, dear, and vast places; quicken all senses in your very intimate telling. A bathroom scene and the meeting of lovers–you let us in to so much personal beauty that one almost feels rude to be looking into such privacy. Amazing execution of this stirring piece, Eric. Thank you for sharing it.
